So i guess the question is does this price seem reasonable or should i hunt around to find a better price at an approved VW mechanic? Or is there somewhere else that anyone could recommend in the North West?

This is just from memory though so could be wrong. I also remember a member called finesinglemalt explaining that a 'mad scientist' friend of his recommends a full mech recalibration first. What was your issue with the gearbox? Thanks all for the advice, as a long time lurker this forum has always been my first port of call for any queries with my car. Unfortunately this is the first time i've had to post about any problems with it.

Thanks Steve, I've heard that Awesome GTi have a good reputation so i'll definitely give them a call. It only tends to be around 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear, there is an audible clunk when changing up and down between 1st and 2nd gear. To say i was taken aback when they mentioned that kind of figure is putting it mildly, I'll defo give Awesome GTi a call and see what kind of figure they quote me.

The annoying thing is the car is an 07 plate and has only done miles so I wouldn't have expected any issues with the gearbox just yet.

Great depression reading packet

Mine clunks in low gears and ive basically rebuilt my gearbox, That just normal DSG noise tbh. As for the jerky gear changes mine atm seems to slur into the gear so you'll feel the gear it lets go then bites again. As for miles vs mech wear the seals degrade which is why they fail so its not so much down to miles its done more about how old it is. I wouldn't take everything you hear from the main dealer as gospel mind. As a quick update I managed to get my car booked into AwesomeGTi at the weekend, they advised that they would be able to look at sending it off for a repair of the Mechatronic unit first of all if it was required and then if that didn't work they would replace it but waive the repair fee.

If this turns out to be the cause of the issues then to say I'll be less than impressed is an understatement.

I'm considering looking into seeing where I stand on getting VW to pay for the diagnostics and repairs that have been carried out on it so far since it's their work that seems to have caused the issue in the first place. So the Good news is after a trip to Awesome GTi the R is back to normal, after doing a clutch reset, replacing the sump washer and topping up with 4 litres of oil all the clunkyness has gone, who knows if any long term damage has been done to the gearbox thanks to the ineptitude of the local VW dealer.

Like This Unlike Andy 25 Oct try a good indie garage who can do a reset on the box and try that first. They can do an adaption reset and failing that, get your unit repaired or replaced. Like This Unlike GazR32 26 Oct Thanks all for the advice, as a long time lurker this forum has always been my first port of call for any queries with my car. Awesome Gti in Irlam are a decent indy and are used to mecha issues on our platforms.

A friend took his work horse in to get serviced at VW. They couldn't get the sump plug off as it had been cross threaded on. In their words "the person who serviced it last hasn't fitted the plug properly and damaged it". Guess who did the last service?

The same VW garage! They very quickly fitted a new sump FOC when this was pointed out to them. VW are snakes. Slithering, wretched, scheming, sly underhanded snakes.Relay - Main Power Supply Fuse.

Due to frequent e-mail demand from new members, here it is again. Since prevention is much better than redemption, it makes sense to replace the weak Relay ECM Circuit Fuse before it gets too hot and leaves you stranded.

The upgraded version of the new Relay circuit has heavier contacts which can withstand the heat better.

This relay switch whatever name you want to call it basically sends power to every sensor in the car as well as through the ECU. Failing ECM Load Reduction Power Relays have been known to damage ECU's when they go bad, not to mention the safety factor involved when they decide to die while you are idling in traffic or traveling on the highway! I also recommend ordering two of these critical parts in order to keep a second newly-designed circuit as a spare.

Installation is literally a snap.

After removing the driver's side under-dash panel two T Torx screwssimply use a flashlight to look-up where the fuses are and remove the largest fuse - Relay - and carefully set it aside.

Directly above the empty slot where Relay used to be is Relaywhich can now easily be removed and replaced. Everything can now be put back together in reverse order. Note - The newly-designed Relay is gray in color and slightly smaller than the older black model, which tends to fail under hot temperatures.

Thanks Turbo for the post.

I have been on " relay" post so won't bore. One other point on replacing the " Maybe my hands are to big, but I also remove with three screws the panel below the steering. Be careful as TurboSteve noted that the numbers on relays you pull or replace can be inverted.

Speaks volumes to the quality My pull of the relay that Turbo notes was inverted and the new relay went in inverted from original. Heeey all vee dubbers, I'm just wondering if anyone knows any good advice on modding a TDI golf engine wise, I'm just kinda lost because not many people know or places such as "2sus customs" and all that know what to do to a tdi engine, soo all I'm asking for is tips. Am I allowed to have a full system exhaust all that sort of stuff, cold air intake, just really would like some advice thanks!

Whilst his version is the GT kW model the premise is the same and there's plenty of aftermarket tune options also. The question is - how far do you want to go? Intake, tune and cat-back exhaust will give a noticable improvement, but going from there is where it gets interesting and expensive. A provent is probably a good idea, too. At the moment I've just got a good filter and a tune on my TDI. Makes a big difference. I'm just going to put a cat-back on it - I'm going to leave the DPF in place 'cause I'd prefer not to be belching black smoke everywhere.

I figure it's just simpler and probably cheaper in the end to just go buy a bigger turbo if I need more power. Well all I want is my ecu tuned my dsg tuned a cat back or a full system idk what's better, air intake and a bigger inter cooler, Paul thanks will doo, I just need some advice and dgc do you have the 2.

That factory intercooler is good enough for most mods until you put a larger turbo on the engine, so that's not really something you need to touch first. I'd say you best bet first up is a cat-back. Removing the DPF makes putting a full system much on more likely to have problems. If you just want something that you can bolt on work, go for the cat-back Your best bang for buck will be an ECU flash tune such as Bluefin or the like Your model will not be fitted with the DPF as this was restricted to the GT TDI models until late onwards as far as I know, but is standard now on all diesel models.

You should notice a big improvement in both performance and economy and a much more refined car to drive. Although it's not entirely necessary, if you can afford to fit a CAI and do an exhaust upgrade as well then do so prior to applying the tune so that these things can be taken into account when the new maps are written for your car.

It can be done later down the track as well but it will most likely cost you extra dollars as expected for an upgrade. What places should I go for the tune? You will have several options available as the TDI's are very tuneable. These guys do a good job. My Build Thread. Originally Posted by dgc. Page 1 of 3 1 2 3 Last Jump to page:. Spending the bucks toward improving handling coilovers, light wgt wheels and better rubber. Then when you have the money you can turbo or sc it. Plus you void your warranty with a reflash. The dealer would never tell the difference between a retuned R32, it's not the same gains as with a GTI and the APR flash isn't traceable when set back to stock with lockout on. I'm just hoping for some moderately improved driveability across the range.

Am under no illusions this will transform the car or anything like that. Sways are next, then exhaust and rubber when due. Haldex and coilovers will need to wait. Will be looking into this sprintbooster thingy though Flash not immediately traceable the one's I know of intimately on MkV R32, Dealer overrides ECU during routine diagnostics when an update is available and they do release them regularly, even on year old cars.

The ECU tunes I'm aware of, behave diagnostics neutral. Originally Posted by Stalker. Page 2 of 2 First 1 2 Jump to page:. The time now is PM. All rights reserved.Welcome, Guest.

Fuses and relay Volkswagen Golf MK5

This was posted on the ukmkivs forum by Foxy so i thought i would share it with all the cool members on here to hopefully help someone Due to a recent ball-achingly tedious saga of trying to get my ECU and cluster swapped, I though i'd share the information I've learned. It's a frequent topic of discussion and to be honest, there's alot of poor infomation about it.

I'm going to tell you what I know The nub of the problem is that there are so far two main types of immobiliser fitted to the Mk5 Golf and Jetta Right, for all those who already know about the basics, by all means skip down the page KEYS There are three main parts to your key assuming "flip" style.

It is read by your car's instrument cluster by inductive signal via a pick-up "ring" mounted on the ignition barrel lock. It needs no external power, and is very fragile. Breaking the glass vial will usually brick the internals. Do not confuse the coding of the immobiliser transponder chip with the pairing of the radio remote control The instrument cluster houses a non-volatile memory which keeps information such as the immobiliser code referred to as SKC or PIN.

There are various types of cluster. The obvious differences are apparent from looking at the dials The "c" stands for "crypto" a Siemens Security technology which is more advanced that the basic type 4 version. How to tell if your cluster is Immo4 or Immo4c Look at the left hand tacho dial and turn your ignition key to position If you put just the flat key blade in the ignition and turn it, you will activate the immobiliser Always check YOUR part number, and know the date of manufacture of your car.

You will likely fail to match up replacements if they are not compatible. You will definately fail if you mismatch immobiliser types. For each different type of engine there will be a different ECU. Some ECUs appear the same externally ie are the same type ie EDC16, but the internal software could and is likely to be totally different.

This should be a 5-digit code. Do not confuse this code with the 4-digit radio code often listed on the fob too.

This will give you access to the immobiliser and allow you to carry out "secure" functions with vag-com VCDS. Some are very cheap and be aware they are less reliable.

You can log into the cluster or the ECU to achieve this information. Keys If you need a new key and have one already, you can have another key made at most good locksmiths. Be aware that if you buy a so called "new" key from eBay, be sure it is absolutely new and unused.

The transponder chips must be "virgin" and can only be programmed once!!! The blade is easy enough to have cut from your other one as a template. For various reasons including power drain issues with third generation head units or the addition of new unsupported modules the CAN bus gateway must be upgraded to a newer revision.

This step is critical unless you want to figure out what you had installed prior to the upgrade. Whilst not essential it is worth taking a screen shot of the different screens in the long coding. The gateway can be in two locations on the Golf.

One is above the accelerator pedal and the other is above the clutch pedal if fitted. The clutch pedal location was used for the first year or so of production. Using the screen shots and notes from earlier you can now recode the gateway. Below are screenshots showing the differences between the two gateways old gateway on the left and new gateway on the right. I just installed 7NC on my R32 and it works perfectly also.

But I needed to get the latest Vag com Im about to buy a canbus. Who can advice what kind of canbus will be fine my new RNS F version. It works perfectly. It takes around 15 minutes for me to get a GPS signal. Once I get the signal everything works fine.

I am not sure if I upgrade the CAN gateway it will work fine. I used your instructions for upgrading the gateway on my mk5 golf. I have a couple of issues which hopefully you can help me with or point me in the right direction.

The guy that installed it told me that he was not able to access the navigation settings in vag com after installing. Also, when I drove off in the car, the dash board light for bulbs came on and the rear fog light appears to have stopped working.

Can you please help as I want to keep the stereo in the car if possible? I coded it. It communicates with the other modules.

BUT i have as long coding Thats not normal or…?

The old one works. My Can Buss Module plug is different than those on newer models. How do I go about upgrading the plug itselfis there a converter?
